Now I Know Why There Are So Many Convicted Boyfriend Beaters In The World

(By CaffeineFiend)

It’s recently come to my attention that I kind of suck at being in a relationship.

Well, let me rephrase that — I don’t completely suck, it’s just an entirely new world for me.

Growing up, I was the girl with all the guy friends.

Camo was my favorite color and, to my parents’ everlasting chagrin, I was a total tomboy — a phase my adult friends have finally helped me grow out of, or at least stick on the back burner in polite company.

Even during the dreaded awkward teen years, I never really got awkward around my guy friends because they were my buds and I was always “one of the guys” … who they could conveniently talk to about their girl problems. Go figure.

The only problem in the otherwise ideal aforementioned situation is that it resulted in somewhat of a lack of practical dating experience.

I can hear you gasping from here.

Yeah, it’s really true.

OK, now stop. You’re going to give me a complex.

Anyway, it’s all catching up to me like a truckload of bricks now that I let this dude (who’s actually pretty awesome) take me off the market.

I still have that single-girl one-of-the-boys-but-can-give-a-teasing-smile-and-usually-get-my-way-because-I’m-a-girl mindset.

It’s a problem.

I don’t think about the little things that could potentially set a boyfriend off.

However, thanks to a late-night game of Truth or Dare, I did manage to find out — whether justified or not, AND IN THIS CASE CLEARLY NOT — smacking another guy’s butt is on the list.

But that’s beside the point.

The point is that not only do I completely lack the male perspective on things of this nature, but most of the time I have a decidedly naïve female perspective — which one might argue is no perspective at all.

(To those who actually would argue that, you’re mean. Take a pill. Be nice.)

Anywho, I say all that to say, I’m working on it.

Think it through first and at least try to see things from the other person’s perspective — eeeeeeeeeven if they’re wrong. Unreasonable. And are completely overreacting.

Just give it a shot. It’ll save you fights, drama and stress in the long run.
