Trading carrots for chocolate pudding since 2012
I am a big fan of video games. Old ones, new ones, difficult ones, easy ones, doesn’t matter. From Atari to PlayStation 3, there are plenty of games out there to keep me busy for hours on end.
What I don’t like is how expensive some of them can be, as new games average about 50 bones a pop. So, I found a way around that. Sort of.
I know a person who is a genius. This person doesn’t pay for video games, yet has damn near any game you can think of. When I heard about this, I was like, “How can I be down!?”
I was told I could get the hookup but there was one downside: I couldn’t take my system online or it will get fried.
Cool, I thought. I don’t want to get my ass handed to me in Madden or 2K baseball by some 9-year-old in Japan anyway.
I took my PS3 over there. Within a week, my system was LOADED! We’re talking emulators with every game for at least nine old-school systems, some hand-selected arcade games and even a handful of PS3 titles. I was told if I could get an external hard drive, any PS3 game could be mine.
Or so I thought.
Apparently, the dude who knew how to hack all these games has been busted. Unless someone else steps up, which I doubt because the people at Sony are some serious tyrants, I will get no new PS3 love. Now I face a dilemma. Here’s the scenario.
I was given an Xbox 360 to take to my person. The short of it: It’s hot. It belonged to the son of an ex but was not returned because the ex refused to pay a debt.
I took said Xbox where it needed to go, but it has been more than six months and the person who gave it to me doesn’t seem to want to pony up the scratch to get it pimped out. My hookup, knowing my PS3 is basically on standstill and also wanting the Xbox either out of his place or taken to collect dust elsewhere, suggested I hook the 360 up myself and make my PS3 legit.
Unlike the PS3, nerds are working 25-8-366 on Xbox hacks. Since the systems carry most of the same titles, I’d only have to buy PS3 exclusives (the only ones I would want so far are Metal Gear Solid 4, which I already own, and Heavy Rain) and could even take it online. Meanwhile, all the magic would be transferred to the Xbox AND I’d have access to any 360 game I want.
Sounds like a win-win, right?
I admit that I’d feel bad if I kept a machine that wasn’t mine. Hell, I don’t even know the kid it was ganked from and I kinda feel bad for him.
This is where you come in.
I’ve never asked for the public’s opinion in this forum, but I will now. There’s three options to consider.
* Do I steal the already-stolen Xbox and get my federal nerd on?
* Do I go buy my own Xbox and have that one doctored?
* Do I wait it out and see if someone else figures out how to hack the PS3?
The first answer that gets five votes is the direction I will go.
